Emeraldo becomes 2021 Holsteiner Champion Stallion

After having emerged as crowd favourite over these past few days at the 51st Holsteiner stallion grading and elite riding horse auction in Neumünster, the grading commission also saw the distinctively marked stallion heading the field of the 65 strong stallion candidates: Esmeraldo by Emerald van het Ruytershof-Caretino, bred by Friedrich Meyer (Nottfeld) has been named the 2021 Holsteiner champion stallion.

“This stallion instantaneously catches the eye for his looks as well as his exceptional jumping quality”, breeding director Zuchtleiter Stephan Haarhoff said on behalf of the grading commission. “Already at the preselection he had stood out for his ability and his very good front leg, qualities confirmed during the Neumünster grading event. Moreover, he presented himself an extremely typey stallion with an impressively set neck“, Haarhoff continued the description of this representative of mare family 4847. A total of 22 stallions born in 2019 have obtained the coveted approved status, five of them have been graded with premium marks. These include, in addition to Esmeraldo (lot no 41), the first reserve champion, Chavaros II by Charleston-Con Air (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), mare family 1571, no 18 in the catalogue, the second reserve champion, Sassiere by Sandro Junior-Contender (lot no 57, ZG Brügge/Krawatzki, Kasseedorf), mare family 4965, as well as lot no 43, Hanley Light by Hanley-Cassini I (Claus-Heinrich Petersen, Ahrenviöl), mare family 4303, and lot no 28, Con Valor by Cornet Obolensky-Casall (Manfred von Allwörden, Grönwohld), mare family 5064. Stephan Haarhoff was pleased with the age group presented for grading: “The 70 colts listed in the catalogue were by around 50 different sires – we have never had a group as genetically diverse in Holstein before. And all candidates proved to be able jumpers.” This also applies to the first reserve champion, Chavaros II, described as a “really great horse full of go” by Haarhoff, while the second reserve champion Sassiere stood out for his “perfectly balanced body proportions and ground-covering canter”, leaving nothing to be desired over the jump.

Elite Riding Horse Auction – Zoolaboo Danced to the Top
A heated battle of the bids in the Holstenhall was sparked by a dressage oriented candidate in the 38 strong collection of the elite riding horses, eventually sold at the top price of 165,000 euros: Four-year-old Zoolaboo (lot no 141) by Zack-Lorentin I (Peter Blohm, Uetersen), mare family 474A, has already won ridden classes and is to move to Austria. The three-year-old grey mare Carolina by Canvaro-Carolino (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), mare family 308, was worth 79,500 euros to US American clients. Already successfully shown in competition, Ida von der Söhr (lot no 115) by Vigo d’Arsouilles-Chambertin (Christian Schröder, Groß Wittensee), mare family 18A2, was secured by regular Holsteiner auction clients, the Eckernförde b-Horses GmbH with managing director Fabian Kühl, as the hammer of auctioneer Hendrik Schulze-Rückamp fell at 62,000 euros. Lot no 137, Quintus by Quibery-Limbus (Hobe Magens, Ottenbüttel), mare family 308, should have a bright future ahead at the stable of newly crowned European eventing champion Nicola Wilson (GBR). Honoured at Neumünster for her achievements with Holsteiner auction graduate JL Dublin by Diarado, she and his co-owner Deirdre Johnston (GBR) now secured the big-framed bay for 50,000 euros.
