In just a few weeks, the Holsteiner Elmshorn Verband facility is to become the venue of the licensing of the colts born in 2021. From 14-16 December, 47 potential future breeding stallions will present themselves – and they can now be found online, including photos, pedigrees and their relatives’ performance record on www.holsteiner.auction.
For the stallions for sale and those with the sale option subject to the decision on 15 December, videos have been uploaded. The most sons – three each – are sent by stallions like Casall by Caretino or his son Cascadello I; likewise represented by three offspring are Keaton by Kannan and Cornet Obolensky son, Corniolo. “It is extremely gratifying that younger stallions, like former champion stallion, Cahil by Cornet Obolensky or reserve champion stallion Chinchero by Chopin have three sons each from their first crop presented for grading”, says breeding director Stephan Haarhoff. Moreover, Chopin by Casall, Christian by Cartani, Clarimo by Clearway, Cornet Obolensky by Clinton, and Grandorado TN by Eldorado van de Zeshoek are being represented by two offspring each.
Some innovations for the grading and beyond
Carrying out the event as a pilot project at Elmshorn is arguably the most striking innovation of the main Holsteiner stallion licensing in December. Beyond that, the reform includes two free jumping phases for all colts on Thursday (14 December) and Friday (15 December), both influencing the grading decision in equal measure. The grading status is already announced on Friday evening. But also on Saturday hearts will beat faster again at the grand stands of the Fritz-Thiedemann-indoor arena, when the question which stallion is to be proclaimed the celebrated champion is answered. From Saturday noon, the attention is centred on the auction of the non-licensed colts and the licensed stallions and the riding horses. The Holsteiner Verband is leading the way in Germany in terms of the stallions’ health check: for the first time ever this year, x-rays of the back have been taken. Good news for all those purchasing a licensed stallion at auction on 16 December: at the joint stallion parade taking place at Elmshorn in March 2024 for all stallion keepers with at least one Holstein activated stallion, they will be able to present their then three-year-olds new charges at no cost in the first year.
If you haven’t got tickets for the Holsteiner highlight of the year yet, hurry up. Tickets can be booked online through eventim, all known ticket agencies and on site, at the Holsteiner Verband at Elmshorn. Find all information on the stallions on www.holsteiner.auction.
