With the stallions’ approval status already pronounced on Friday night, anticipation was running high again on Saturday morning at the Holsteiner young stallion grading at Elmshorn, as the final day saw the announcement of the premium stallions and, above all, the champion stallion. The honour of this title was given to lot 29, Corroniolo by Corniolo-Cassini I, bred by Hans Otto Krohn (Marne), mare family 104A, with the dark bay exhibited by Tjark Witt of Friedrichskoog. His new name is going to be Corassini from now on.
“This stallion impressed us right from the start”, said breeding director Stephan Haarhoff representative of the grading commission, consisting of Christian Thoroe, Matthias Wittke and Horst-Klaus Heleine. “A horse of ultra-modern make and shape with an awesome silhouette. His jumping was also absolutely convincing with quick reflexes, good judgement and boundless ability – a worthy champion stallion.” Lot 45, Uluru by Uricas v/d Kattevennen-Cormint, bred by Caroline Kröger of Wakendorf (owned by Manfred von Allwörden, Grönwohld) became the first reserve champion. “Uluru is a light, typey, and elastic horse with an awesome jump. The stallion has a medium frame but becomes huge at the jump.” Lot 37, Keystone by Keaton-Quinar (Margit Petersen, Sollwittfeld), mare family 3401, received the second reserve champion’s sash and is owned by Sollwitt stallion station and Thomas Petersen (Sollwittfeld). “An outstanding athlete with a lot of cadence, he has seen loads of development since the pre-selection and comes from a very reliable damline”, according to Haarhoff. Four other representatives of the 2021 crop have been awarded the coveted premium title by the grading commission: Lot 12, Chancay by Chinchero-Sir Shutterfly (b.: André Eppinger, Vellahn, o.: Kai Thomsen, Büsumer Deichhausen) and lot 27, Cornetan by Cornet’s Balou-Kannan (Josef Fischer, Bad Griesbach), mare family 2554, same as lot 36, Kantato by Keaton-Casall (Manfred Birchler/SUI), a representative of mare family 104A as well as lot 44, United Pleasure by United Way-For Pleasure (b.: Rita Siebke-Baasch, Sarzbüttel/o.: Vitor Frias/PRT).
Even though the 2023 grading of the young Holsteiner stallions has come to a close, a visit to the Verband facility is worth your while also on Sunday, 17 December, where the stallion keeping GmbH Breeders’ Brunch will showcase the younger stallions under training conditions from 10:30am.
